Note: This post in sponsored by Command Brand from 3M, but all opinions are my own.
I have a thing for organizing rooms on a door! I used this to organize the kitchen in in our Florida rental apartment, and I did a fun photo shoot of how to organize the same door for back to school. I love that the door could be a one stop shop for all things school. No more frantic, “Where’s my backpack, Mom!” or “Ahhh…. I can’t find my history book!” No worries, it’s all on the door.
Here’s what you need:
- Door (I used one we had removed in our house.)
- Floor length mirror
- 9 Command™ Brand colorful hooks
- 4 Command™ Brand Picture Hanging Strips
- Lots of stuff to organize!
You can see the door still has hinges! I kind of like that, but you could easily removed them if you wanted.
So, first thing is first… you need to attach the floor length mirror to the door. I used 4 Command™ Brand Picture Hanging Strips to accomplish this. I seriously love those things. I’ve used them to make a few gallery walls in my day, see here and here.
And here are the fun, colorful Command™ brand colorful hooks I used on the door:
Think about what you want to organize. Backpacks? Lunch boxes? School supplies? Jewelry? Keys? Shoes? Then start sticking on your Command™ brand colorful hooks! To use the hooks just, remove black “wall side” liner and apply strip to the desired location. Press firmly along the entire strip for 30 seconds. Then, remove blue liner and apply hook to strip. Make sure the tab is accessible for future removal. Press firmly along the entire hook for 30 seconds, and wait one hour before use.
Now it’s time for the fun part, hangin’ up your goodies!
Add a chair and a basket to the floor in front of your door for even more storage. I like the idea of putting any books or paper you need for the next day in the basket, and making it a routine to ensure that the basket is empty each morning!
And here she is again, lookin’ all snazzy and organized!
What do you think? Could you organize your kiddos school life on a door? I’d love to hear…

Your house sounds like mine! My kids tell me that they can’t find something before they’ve even looked! This is a cute idea. I have an antique door that already has a mirror in it that would be perfect. Thanks for the inspiration!

What a great idea. I love the addition of the umbrella there, we always seem to loose ours in the house some where. I may not use a door but I will definitely need to set up something organized like this. Thanks for linking up to Snickerdoodle Sunday!

Why didn’t I think of this?! It’s a great idea. I’m going to use it on my craft closet door, without the mirror probably.
