Felt is pretty awesome. It’s super cheap. Even when it is not on sale it’s 4 sheets for a dollar! Oh and I love that it comes in tons of colors! It’s easy to cut and hot glue holds it perfectly. I’m a big felt fan. So, when ForRent.com asked me to come up with a fun wall art idea for renters, felt filled the brain! I thought about my fun felt DIY wall art I made for our Florida apartment, but since I don’t like doing the exact same project twice, I crafted up a new, more awesome version, see:
The best part is the whole project costs $4 and I made it under 30 minutes. True! Here is the DIY wall art I made for our FL apartment hung in our new living room! See the 3 gray canvases? Pretty spunky, right?
Here’s what you need to make yourself some fancy felt wall art. Oh and the hot glue gun is not in this pic.
And I decided to use this handy dandy fabric cutter instead of scissors, like in the pic above. But, the wall art that is hanging on my wall was made entirely with scissors. So use what you’ve got on hand! I cut the felt into 1 in. strips, like so:
Here are my strips:
I started laying them on my canvas to try and decide how I liked them best:
The I started hot gluing strips on with my crusty, but trusty hot glue gun. (“Crusty, but trusty!”… I like that!) Don’t be scared to put strips on top of strip.
When you’ve got all the strips on how you like ’em, turn over the canvas and chop of the ends of the strips. Done-skies.
Seriously, it is that easy! Here’s the video and that Amber and I made for ForRent.com. You can see all the deets in action plus more tips for decorating and making the most of your rental!

I love this idea!! I bet you could do the same thing with washi tape although it might be a little more expensive. Or, truthfully, you could even plan it out the same way and use acrylic paint or construction paper. Definitely pinning this for future diy projects!!
