I’ve never sent Christmas cards. True. This year I got a little goodie in my email inbox for 20 free cards from Snapfish.com (that’s where I’ve bought my mom’s annual gift for 6 years now!), I decided what the heck, they’re free, I now officially have no excuses, ha! I picked a card out in about 3 minutes, threw 2 pictures on it, and ordered those suckers. I’m easy like that! Then they showed up, and I had to collect address! Ahh! Who knew. I guess since we only had to hand deliver two wedding invites we never collected addresses. So I had to collect. And then I had to address the suckers. Which is why we ended up with this post all about spunky holiday envelopes. The more I addressed, the fancier I got. I’m just so fancy, don’t ya know 😉 And then at some point, I just had to stop and mail the suckers before I doodled them to death. Seriously. I love a good black pen and map pencils!

The US post office requires extra postage for what they seem to be non-machine-readable envelopes, which would include any that are difficult to read( like your magazine one) or any that are not horizontally oriented rectangles. The extra charge is only 21cents, so total postage is 70 cents. I think that’s not bad to unsure your lovely creations get delivered on time. Ask at the post office for the special handling stamp 70 cents–its a lovely butterfly.

Lovely… just remember, you need enough clear space at the bottom for the post office to print their bar code and ensure timely delivery. Anything that hinders that (lack of space, dark or patterned envelope), will delay delivery.

I LOVE those envelopes! They are beautifully done. Unfortunately, I did some similar designs on my Christmas cards last year and the people I sent them to did not receive them until over two weeks after I had sent them.. and they were locals! Any tips to ensure that envelopes like these will go through the mail?

Hadn’t thought about that! Maybe just to make sure that the writing is simple and very readable? I think mine were festive, but easy to read. I guess we’ll see!
