I was lucky enough to be able to attend two Celebration of Service events this year! Both wonderful experiences, both very different! The Houston event consisted of 500+ Team Depot volunteers fixing up a home for 328 veterans. The Austin event was smaller (but just as spirited!) with 40 Team Depot volunteers making the Jones’ new home in Austin, TX wheelchair friendly. I shop at The Home Depot on a very regular basis, we can stroller to one from our house! And before I attended these events, I had no idea that The Home Depot even had a foundation. I was blown away that The Home Depot Foundation has invested more than 380 million in local communities since it was founded in 2002! How awesome is that?!
If you’re new here, Celebration of Service is a 2 month event put on by The Home Depot Foundation, local non profits, and Team Depot volunteers with a mission of transforming 1,000 homes for veterans in 2 months from 9/11 until Veterans Day on 11/11. There are still a few weeks left in this years Celebration of Service, but here are a few the amazing projects going on all over the United States. Indianapolis, IN: This is one awesome kitchen makeover! Team Depot renovated a facility for homeless veterans.
Davison, MI: Team Depot built him a wheel chair ramp and spruced up his yard!
Houston, TX: This is the first Team Depot event I attended. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Mays, who lis the oldest vet living in the complex! And yes, he dresses this nice every single day! See lots more about the Houston transformation here. 
Rochester, NY: I love the look on his wife’s face in this picture!
Austin, TX: This is one of the events I attended, and I heart Meg and Joey and Austin, so I’m declaring it my very favorite project!
Since the project at the Meg and Joey’s house in Austin took more than one day, I have to share a few more before and afters with y’all! We extended the patio to give Joey the most useable outdoor space possible. I’m obsessed with these benches! Aren’t the awesome?
