What you need to make bat boxes
- Free printable bat box pattern
- White cardstock
- Scissors
- Glue
- An X-ACTO knife
How to make an easy Halloween treat box
Pillow boxes are easy to make because they require very little cutting and you only have to glue/tape them in one place. They also store flat and take up no space, and when you’re ready to use them, you can just pop them into place. I’ve shared a number of other Halloween themed pillow boxes this year including friendly monsters, jack-o-lanterns, mummies, Dracula, and Frankenstein.
Step 1- Download the free Halloween treat box template
To download the free “Bat box template”, just enter your name and email address below and the free file will be delivered to your inbox! The vampire bat gift box template comes 1 to a page.
Step 2- Print
For best results, use white card stock and print the template in color.
Step 3- Cut out vampire bat
Cut out the pillow box and bat wings. Try to cut carefully so that you leave as much of the black or gray outline as possible without leaving any white.
Step 4- Score & fold
Fold along the two long lines. Then score along the rounded lines at the top and bottoms of the boxes (4 total per box). To score you can trace along the lines with one end of your scissors or the back side of an X-ACTO knife. Test somewhere else first to make sure you aren’t pressing so hard as to cut all the way through the card stock.
Step 5- Glue & attach
Secure the tab on the side of the box with glue. You could also use double sided tape, but glue will be stronger when the pox is pillowed. Now attach the bat wings to the back of the box. I cut the wings into to halves to make them stick out further. When the glue is dry, gently fold the edges of the wings along the side of the box so that the wings will stick straight out from the sides.
Step 6- Pop & fill
Your gift box is almost done! All you need to do is to pop in the tabs to complete the vampire bat pillow box. Now that the box is complete, fill it with treats or tiny surprises and hand out to friends for Halloween.
The vampire bat boxes are small and are the perfect size for small treats and candies. Each box can hold about 25 M&M’s.
