It’s Team Depot time again, y’all! Last year, I had the honor for working on 2 Celebration of Service projects with Team Depot, one in Houston and one in Austin. This year is The Home Depot’s fifth annual Celebration of Service. Team Depot is an associate led volunteer work force that spends the 2 months (between 9/10 and Veterans Day) working on safety and accessibility upgrades to restore independence for our nation’s veterans! Pretty awesome, right?
This year I will be working on 3 events starting October 6th in Dripping Springs, TX! I will be building a personalized project for each of the events! It really is so fun to work side by side with the homeowners and know that you are making their daily lives better!
Last year in Houston, TX 500 Team Depot volunteers worked like crazy to transform The Midtown Terrace Suites. Together we solved 5 major problems for the complex including building a community space and building ramps between buildings. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Mays, who is the oldest vet living in the complex! And yes, he dresses this nice every single day! Lots more from the Houston Celebration of Service event here.
Then in Austin, TX, we helped Joey and Meg Jones make their new home wheelchair and prosthetic leg friendly. I learned a lot about prosthetic limbs! Things like making doorways wider, adding a wheelchair friendly shower, and creating a wheelchair and prosthetic leg friendly outdoor space.
I love this sea of orange as we prepared for the Houston event last year! Can’t wait to whip out my Team Depot t-shirt and build stuff! And this year, I will be building special, personalized projects for each event!
