I love the Summer Olympics! So much so that I actually attended the 2004 Athens Games and the 2012 London Games to watch gymnastics. I got to witness Gabby Douglass win the Team Gold and I even had a Kate Middleton sighting in 2014! I want to share my Olympic love with the kids, so here’s a list of 14 Olympic crafts to do with kids.
1. Olympic Rice Krispie Treats
This was as easy as making rice krispie treats and adding M&M’s for the rings. I ended up making it educational by having max color sort the M&M’s.
2. Country Game
I started playing this game with Max a few months ago, and he loves it! With the Olympics near, I’ve incorporated talking about competition, athletes, sports, and Rio. The key to teaching littles countries (or states or anything else of the sort) is reception. We have done this 398 times 🙂
3. Cupcake Toppers
I actually made these free printable cupcake toppers the 2012 London games, but the Team U.S.A. cupcake topper can be used again and again!
4. Healthy Olympic Ring Snack
Use blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, pineapple, and grapes to make and eat the Olympic rings! See more details at Family Bites.
5. Paint chip American Flag
Use paint chips or magazine pages to collage a large American flag with a big group of kids.
6. Flag Rocks
Use the Olympics as a learning opportunity and paint rocks as flags from around the world. See the full tutorial at Non Toy Gifts.
7. Sugar Cookie Olympic Rings
Use pre made sugar cookie dough to make festive cookies! Donuts would be fun too.
8. Olympic ring necklace
Use polymer clay to make an Olympic ring necklace. Adorable! Find the tutorial at Kids Craft Room.
9. DIY Gold Medals
Use air dry clay to make your own gold medals. FInd the complete tutorial at Paging Super Mom.
10. Olympic Torch
Craft up an Olympic torch yellow and orange handprints!
11. Flash Light Olympic Torch
Kick the games off on the right foot, and turn an empty toilet paper tube, tissue paper, and a tea light into an Olympic torch. Find the tutorial at Oh My Creative.
12. Country Flag Matching Game
13. Nature Inspired Olympic Rings
Use nature to create the Olympic rings. The symbol was originally created in 1913 by Coubertin.Find more at KC EDventures.
14. Backyard Obstacle Courses
use chalk to create a sidewalk obstacle course for everyone to enjoy!
Are you a fan of the Olympics? And just curious, do you like the Summer or Winter Olympics better?
