It’s no lie that I love my door organizer in the kitchen. I use this sucker every single day. I’m convinced that a shutter door can organize any room in your house. Meet my $5 solution to all things kids + school-
Read more about where the door came from and how and what I used to paint the thing, here. Painting a diagonal on a shutter proved to be a tad bit tricky. An Elmer’s paint pen ended up being my secret weapon.
Here are the organizing tools I used:
-
over the door hooks (look for these at the dollar store, Wal Mart, or Target)
-
command clear hooks (perfect for smaller items and can be hung anywhere on the door)
-
closet maid packet pal baskets (I get the m at Home Depot for $3.88 a piece)
-
magnetic knife strip(great for notes and homework and all important papers)
-
command clear caddy (pencils, cell phones, lunch money, any smaller item)
-
clip board helps to organize kid schedules and ensure that important dates are remembered!
Organizing on a door is great for a small space since a door can lean against any wall. What room should I tackle next : )
Add a basket to the bottom of your door for shoes, and you’ve got all things kid + school organized in one swoop! How do you organize all of the school paraphernalia for your kiddos? When does school start in your neck of the woods? It’s weird not to be joining my fellow teacher troops this year to spruce up classrooms, bulletin boards, and stock up on back to school sales. Are any of you “retired” teachers that still feel the back to school excitement? I’d love to hear…

That’s a great idea! I have an old bi-fold door we removed for some reno’s. It unfortunately doesn’t have the shutter design but I’m sure I could still make it functional by attaching some hooks and baskets as you did 🙂

Nice Job! Very Creative. I love the way it looks. I just got an Idea from looking at yours! I’ve got a Double Sided Shoe Bag w/a coat hanger type hook on it , but you load things in from the side & it is clear w/tan piping so you can see through it. I’m going to put that to use for other stuff- like Art Tools & Craft things . And whatever else will fit in it: because my Office is full of Stuff & it will never get Organized if I don’t ! I keep my shoes in boxes in the closet & under the bed in a Sectioned Storage Bag that zips closed. So I don’t need it for shoes.I probably would have never remembered I had it if I hadn’t read this article in this Email. Thanks. : D

That’s really great! It would make a perfect addition to my mudroom. I love the way you transformed the same shutter for a totally different purpose!

We have a couple of doors like this that we took off some small closets. I may have to try this! However, i need to find a way to mount it to the wall. My kids would knock it over in 2 minutes flat.
