Living in Florida, in a tall building (at least in the winter time) allows us to keep are windows open 95% of the time, even at night. There is a nice breeze! So, the bed spread we used in Austin just go too hot. (Andy was waking up with night sweats…TMI?!) I whipped out some old quilts. The orange one is from Urban Outfitters, and the green one is my Anthropolgie college prized possession 🙂
For 3 years in college my bed looked like this. I remember saving up to buy that bedspread. I. loved. it. My sophomore year bedroom (more on that apartment here). I still use those giant clothespins today! (Thanks, mom, for the wonderful Christmas present!)
After college I was sick of it, and it sat in the closet from 2006 until now when I whipped it back out! I used this T.J. Maxx bedspread for our house in Austin. (more on that room here).
Funny how things come and go… It’s bright and cherry and the perfect thickness for Florida. This picture doesn’t look so bad (minus Andy’s pull up bar he loves so much).
The other side of the room is what needs help. We took down the doors in the closet and are so happy we did.
Back to the good better side…

And this is the “if we had a guest bedroom this is what would be in it” corner. Cheers to keepin’ it real!
- Find a few pillows to give the bed a finished look (whenever it’s made)
- Clean up junk on the window sill (Andy currently stores his flashlight collection up there!)
- Find a place or get rid of stuff around vertical book shelf next to TV dresser
- Add a simple border to the orange quilt so it covers the sheets on the side
- Re do the free dresser! (Eeek, that’s a big one and hard to do with no back yard!)
- Clean up the junk corner, get rid of boxes, and find a storage solution for craft supplies that is littered throughout. Where do you store extra lamps?
- Hang up some art.
- DIY a full length mirror.
- Find a place for my great grandmother’s mirror (you can see half of it on the floor next to the table in the above pic)

I’m sure you painted the free dresser in your bedroom by now but I would think you could use the colors in
the quilt to give it a liven up. To start maybe paint just the handles a pretty turquoise blue to give it some
color. I’ve seen wall paper and contact paper used on some pieces. Go out and purchase a tarp to throw out on the patio take the dresser out there and go at it. Or tape it off and roll on some of those
Chevron stripes you like do it out on the patio.

oh please tell me more about the vertical bookshelf!!!!!!! It looks IKEAish and I love it!
Our bedroom is a work in progress for sure! I (mostly) love it even though it’s tiny we’ve done a lot with the small space. We rent too, so I understand your frustration as far as not hanging too many items etc. it sucks! We’re in Kansas and have a bedspread all year round. I’d switch it up more often if I could afford it probably.
