I’ve said it once, but I’ll say it again (and again)… Snail mail and family pictures are two of my favorite things. This is likely why sending and receiving holiday cards is also my favorite! So many of my friends also have small kiddos and I love seeing their cute faces in my mailbox and then displayed in my house all December long. Andy and I started the holiday card tradition the year after we got married. (Just for fun, here’s a list of 72 Christmas traditions.) Check out our holiday cards for 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016!
I teamed up with Minted.com to send our 5th annual Dorobek holiday card! My friend and awesome photographer, Sarah Schiffman, took our family pictures for us this year. We took these in our backyard in less than 5 minutes! I’m a big fan of simple and easy. Want to hear a funny tidbit? I am wearing the same striped t-shirt in this family picture that I wore in family pictures when Maxwell turned 1.
There are 3 things I really love about using Minted.com for Christmas cards. The first one is the find it feature. After you take your family pictures and pick the one picture that you want to use for your card, simply upload it to Minted’s Find It. At a quick glance you can determine which cards are best for your favorite picture. To turn on this feature, login to your account, then click the “Find It Fast” button on in the upper left hand corner. (See below.) This feature allows you to upload your favorite picture and then displays your picture in each of the thumbnails of the holiday cards. You can instantly see which card works best with your favorite picture. Genius.
My second favorite Minted.com is that they have free recipient addressing. This saves so much time and it is easy! All you do is upload a spreadsheet to Minted and your envelopes get printed all fancy. You can even choose to print a cute font with green sprigs, like me! There are lots of cute options to choose from, and did I mention it is free?!
My third favorite thing about Minted.com is the quality and selection. The cards are printed on thick, sturdy paper with a beautiful matte finish. There are 6 paper choices, y’all. Six! I’ve never gone with the fanciest option, but I can only imagine the thickness and sheen. I’m a paper geek. I’ve always gone with the cheapest option, the signature paper, and I can assure you that it is beautiful! You’re likely aware that there are tons of card choices designed by independent artists, but did you know that for most cards there are 5 card shapes, a bazillion options for the back of your card, 3 envelope color choices, and 4 envelope liner choices. Not to mention recipient address choice, return address, and custom stamp options!
I couldn’t help myself with the custom “D” stamps. The black stamp background with green sprigs just paired so nicely with the free recipient address design. Plus having the stamps show up with my Christmas cards saves me a trip to the post office!
I love how the back of our card turned out! Sarah makes family picture taking easy. She snapped these the same day she took these pictures for a post about teaching kids about money. We just switched the coins out for snacks, ha! I always like to include a short, but sweet note about life and I love how it ended up fitting perfectly on the white table.
I’ve used Minted.com for my kids birthday party invites and Christmas cards. Actually the “D” picture in the gold frame on the back of this years Christmas card is a minted print! It’s hard to see in the picture of a picture, but it’s this botanical “D” print in a wood frame. Did you know that you can even order custom house portraits? That is on my Christmas list 😉
And just because I heart this picture, here is a close up of the pic I decided to use for the front of our card this year…
Merry Christmas, y’all!
