When my son, Maxwell, was a baby I made him a few Halloween costumes, and by a few I mean 5 costumes. Today, I’m re-sharing this super cute and ridiculously easy DIY carrot Halloween costume idea.
If you’re looking for more cute DY baby costumes, his collection included:
DIY Carrot costume supplies
- Orange long sleeved onesie (Here is a good one on Amazon.)
- 2 colors of green tulle
- Elastic
- Needle and thread
- White round stickers
- Thin sharpies
How to make a DIY carrot costume
Gather the supplies on the list above and get ready to craft up the cutest organic baby carrot! I have Rit Dye in the picture below because I attempted to dye the elastic green. It kind of worked, but since I tied the tulle around the elastic you can’t see it anyway. Pro tip: Don’t worry about dying anything.
Step 1- Make the carrot top
I loosely measured Maxwell’s head with the elastic and cut a piece to fit around his head comfortably. Then, I hand stitched it together with a needle and thread. Also, you can see my pathetic attempt at dying the elastic green in this picture…
Step 2- Cut strips of tulle
Use scissors to cut 6 inch wide and 12 inch long strips of green tulle. I used to shades of green tulle for the carrot top, a light green and a dark green. Next, tie the strips of tulle around the elastic band. I made double knots. It’s really that easy!
Step 3- Make the stickers
I used white mailing labels and a quarter to trace the circles, but this step would be even simpler if you purchase these white circle stickers for a few bucks. I used thin Sharpie markers to write “USDA Organic” on sticker and “100% Natural, high quality” on the other sticker.
Here’s a close up of his USDA Organic sticker and 100% natural!
I love that this costume does not mess up the orange onesie at all! Just take the 2 stickers off and voila, you’ve got your orange onesie back for everyday wearing. How cute is my giant organic carrot?!

This is so cute, I once dressed my youngest as a ladybird when he was a baby – just dots on a red all in one. He is 16 now so probably wont want to be a carrot any time soon but I still think it’s the cutest darn thing ever!
