- Hot pink leggings
- 20 inches of elastic
- 1 Sturdy sheets of hot pink and orange felt
- Black and white felt scraps
- Hot glue gun
- Safety pin
How to make a flamingo costume
The flamingo costume DIY is 2 main sections 1) The pink tutu 2) Flamingos face. This flamingo can easily be made to fit anyone. The taller the person, the longer you need to make the pink boa tutu.
Step 1- Tie elastic
Cut a peice of elastic about 20 inches. There is no science to this, you simply want it to fit comfortably around the toddler’s waist. You could use hot glue, but I just tied my elastic in a double knot.
Step 2- Cut and tie boas
I cut the 72 in long boas into thirds. I think it’s cute to make the boa skirt varying lengths, so no need to measure. To attach the boas to the elastic band, simply tie one end of the boa to the elastic band you made in step 1. Fair warning, the boas shed like crazy. There will be hot pink feathers everywhere! I tried to take a picture of the skirt, but it’s so fluffy it’s really hard to see anything. This step should take less than 20 minutes.
Step 3- Make flamingo head
Grab a bowl and trace a circle on the sturdy peice of hot pink felt. Cut out the circle with scissors. Next, it’s time to make the beak. The best way to describe the beak shape is an elf hat. Use a pencil to make the shape before you cut it out. Once you like the beak shape, trace the tip of the beak on black felt and cut that out. The last and easiest part of the flamingo face is the eye. It’s 2 circles, a smaller black circle inside of a larger white circle. Hot glue all of the pieces in place.
Step 4- Assemble
Slip the pink boa tutu around the waist. Take one peice of pink boa and pull it up and around the child’s head to use as the flamingo’s neck. Safety pin the flamingos head to the pink boa and the t-shirt.
