How to Fix a Running Toilet

With 20 minutes and this tutorial your toilet is soon to be a lot less obnoxious. Oh yea, your toilet handle won’t feel like it is about to fall off either. It will be tight and sturdy.

Step 1 – First, turn off the water

Step 2 – Flush the toilet

After you turn off the water, go ahead and flush the toilet. This will ensure that tank is mostly empty. Then, sponge up the extra water…

Step 3 – Unscrew the water hose

Only use a wrench if necessary and do not use the wrench to tighten. Tightening with a wrench could break the porcelain on your toilet tank. You wouldn’t want that. Hand tighten only.

Step 4 – Disconnect the water hose

Disconnect the water hose from the old flush valve.The flush valve is the black thing.

Step 5 – Uuscrew the black piece from the toilet

Step 6 – Pull out the old valve

Reach your hand in the tank and pull out your old flush valve! Your tank should be pretty empty.

Step 7 – Reverse Steps 3 – 6

Now it is time to install you your new and improved, super exciting flush valve! Basically, just reverse the steps above. Place flush valve in empty toilet and hand tighten under the tank. Reconnect the hose to the flush valve. Turn the water back on, and voila. No more noise and the handle is nice and tight. Oh joy!
