I’m sure you’ve seen pictures of Sandy’s devastating aftermath up and down the East Coast in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. According to this site, 17 million people were affected by Sandy, 8 million were without power, 100,000 have been displaced from their home and 109 have died.
We are very fortunate in Florida to have escaped the majority of the wrath of Sandy.
For me, the following pictures put some perspective on the damage Sandy did up north considering the storm was smaller when it passed FL and it really didn’t even hit us. The storm + full moon caused significant damage, even here in Fort Lauderdale.
The following pictures were taken with a Panasonic Lumix G5 camera I was given to review by BlogHer. The Panasonic Lumix has 14 creative filters you can apply in the camera. Each of these pictures uses one of those effects, but no other filter or alterations. These were shot on October 30, 2012 … 3 days after Sandy blew by Florida, and 1 day after she made landfall in the Northeast. The first picture shows the ocean overflowing onto A1A… A close up of the above parking meter and signage …
Beach debris …
Anyone know what kind of bone/ fin this is? Andy swears it’s a whale bone.
Lots of people with metal detectors out on the beach …
Lots of debris, wood, and trash. I actually collected a ton of plastic bottle caps for a Christmas craft brewing in my head!
Crews worked around the clock to clean up A1A. A portion of this highway was blocked off for 4 days.
Many of the palm trees were uprooted on the beach …
The bulldozers are hard at work pushing the sand from the road back onto the beach …
A few other things I really like about the Panasonic Lumix DSLR camera:
- I love that it has a level inside of the camera. It really helps me keep my pictures straight.
- The lens that comes with this camera is wider than my point and shoot. This comes in very handy for room shots!
- It takes awesome video. Camera + camcorder= greatness.

I have 7 grandchildren and don’t own a camera. So the answer to your question is no.
I have a DSLR and take pictures very often (although not daily), but would love something smaller to use for everyday, while still taking great quality pictures!
I love the ease of a point-and-shoot because I like to take photos of everything – special occasions as well as everyday life.
I have a Nikon DSLR and I take pics just about daily. I love the photography and am always eager to learn more about it. Your photos are great. Looks like a great camera too!
I am using the Lumix S8 point and shoot and the pictures are just great. It’s the first point and shoot I have really liked, however, I would love to get into photography more, and your description and pictures make this camera sound like the one I should look into. Thank you for trying it and commenting.

I don’t use a DSLR but I’d sure love to have one. I take photos in fits & spurts — sometimes every day, sometimes I don’t pick up the camera for weeks. Depends on my schedule and, frankly, my mood. 🙂
I am ready to graduate to a DSLR…since my husband, one daughter and son-in-law have had beautiful results with their models, I envy being able to get gorgeous shots!
I have a TERRIBLE point & shoot- i take photos every day but need a new camera!

I love the wide range of Filter-options. It’s so diverse! But I also like the quick AF, because I find it so hard to capture moving objects in a still picture, and also get a good result. I’m always really focused on detail. And this camera realizes optimal detail in its photos!
i use a point and shoot mainly for special occassions

Great review, it really took some great shots of the damage from Hurricane Sandy in Florida. I’d love to have this camera. I want to start my own blog with the uninteresting things I do… and a camera would help immensely! It would do great closeups of food and my dog!
Sorry my FB share did not work, I am still trying to figure out how to find the url. This one works.

I usually take photos with the point and shot on vacation, family occassions, or some usual sunset or weather. Often I use my phone to document some item I’m shopping for or to remind me to take an action about something.
I generally use a point and shoot, I try to take at least a couple pictures every day.

I never owned a really nice nice camera. What a great giveaway!

Because of it’s ease, I usually whip out my iPhone! I have a 35MM camera but, it’s way too complicated to have birds and boats stand still to get my shot. I need something to use that doesn’t frustrate me.

I take pictures almost every day with my iPhone, for the important stuff I have a DSLR, but it’s too big to carry everywhere.
I have a point and shoot, but long for a dslr. I don’t take photos everyday but definitely more than on special occasions. I have my own blog so I do take photographs pretty frequently, and wish I had the equipment to take better photos so this camera would be a great win!

I take pictures every single day. I normally use my phone but when I want nice pictures Ill use my real camera. Thanks for such a great giveaway!
I have an older model point and shoot by Panasonic and it is great, this looks like a nice cross between a dslr and point and shoot, which is a great feature!
