My mom and dad DIY’ed the glass block shower wall. It was tricky task and took a long time, but they did it! They used glass mortar to glue the glass bricks together. If you’re seriously considering doing it yourself, and have questions, email me at craftaway at gmail dot com and I will sk my crafty mom! You can see how thick the wall is in this picture:
A few tips for making a glass brick shower wall:
- Wear gloves when using the glass mortar. It’s harsh on your hands!
- Mix the mortar in batches. It only stays good for about an hour.
- My parents did not use spacers between the blocks. They eyeballed it, and used a level on the first row.
My mom loves that she never has to worry about cleaning the outside of the glass shower. The glass blocks still allow lots of light, but give the shower taker tons more privacy than the original glass walls. Even though the project was a pain in the butt, they are both happy they did it. Have you ever thought about re doing your shower? Or using glass blocks some where in your house? I’d love to hear…
Good Job, Mama!
